Luso Water

We stayed in Luso last night and we had been served bottles of Luso water before we got there.  We just hadn’t figured out the connection.  As we were walking down to supper last night we saw people carrying huge bottles of water up the stairs to their car.  I assumed they were coming from the supermarket.

We saw a small church in the square below us where the people had walked from.  We went down and went into the chapel to pray and then took some pictures:  we kept seeing many people walking with clear bottles of water both empty and full.  We also started to hear the sound of rushing water nearby.  We looked down from the edge of the platform and discovered more than 8 large pipes with water gushing out of all of them.  People were down there filling up jug after jug with this crystal clear water from the pipes.

We went down and found tiles on the wall explaining that crystal clear water had been coming out of the ground in this area for thousands of years.  About a thousand years ago people began to use the power of the water for waterwheels and other uses.  Over the centuries people came the area believing the water had healing properties.  Over time the machines were replaced with steam but the people still came ‘for the water’.

Today the water in the Luso bottle comes from water filtered thru the ground to a lower cavern.  People say it is special and helps with digestion and disease.  Not sure either way but ithe water does taste good!
