Nice walk to Coimbra

After a nice breakfast which included  the first scrambled eggs in Portugal we headed out under cloudy skies and nice weather. We had to walk thru local neighborhoods to get back onto the Camino. We stopped at a small cafe because today was Labour Day in Portugal so many places were closed. The food and coffee are great everywhere which is always nice.  We saw several other hikers today so that was a lot of fun.  You always ask where they are from and where they started.

The walk went thru both small towns and country lanes with less farm fields.  We didn’t see as many olive trees.  We did see a lot of gardens that were big enough to feed the family and maybe sell for cash.

The villages were very quiet - nobody was out and about.  Seems like people spend their days inside when it is hot.  The temps rose to 82 today so we worked hard to stay hydrated.  Near the end we missed a turn but luckily caught it pretty we didn’t lose much time.

Our hotel is very nice and we are staying two nights to do laundry and take a break.  Tomorrow will be very hot at 90+ so we are happy to not be walking.  Clean clothes are always a treat.
