Walk Into Baiona
We walked from Oia to Baiona today. The weather was wonderful with clear skies and little breeze. We started out going thru the hillside town and saw some horses on the road. Then we walked down and crossed the main road and walked closer to the beach. The views great and the paths very nice.
Then we headed down the coast on some nice trails as we paralleled the ocean. Then we crossed the coastal road again and headed up into the hills on ancient Roman roads. We could see where the metal cart wheels had worn down the rocks into smooth grooves. The carts were narrow and it must have take centuries of travel to make the grooves. This would have been the only path down the coast since the modern road took heavy machinery to carve into the mountains.
After the peak we walked down into the first town then back to a second high point before dropping down into Baiona. It is a very old town with narrow streets and buildings made of stone. Our hotel is on the waterfront and we have a wonderful view out onto the harbor.
Dinner was next door and very good. Dianne had a duck salad with a wonderful dressing. We split a plate of cheeses and Jack had two eggs with chorizo and potatoes. Two glasses of local red wine for each of us complimented the meal. We are back in our hotel with the windows open and a breeze blowing. It was a very nice day.
I say the most incredible day! Your hotel view is so awesome
